This 1998 McClaren Is Expected to Sell for $12M at Auction

It’s a lot of money for a car that’s old enough to buy cigarettes.

An obscenely wealthy person is about to spend more than $12 million on an automobile that’s older than the Honda Accords you’re likely to find at your local used-car dealership.

But it’s not just any old lemon that’s up for sale. Come August, a 1998 McLaren F1 that seats three people and has a fetching orange paint job will go under the hammer as part of RM Auctions’ Pinnacle Portfolio sale. It’s joined by a 2012 Bugatti Veyron, a 1956 Porsche Speedster, and a 1967 Toyota 2000GT. Business Insider reports that all told, the cars are estimated to rake in some $65 million.

If you’re in New York City, you can go and ogle the lots through the windows of Sotheby’s showroom on the Upper East Side. The cars will make their way to Monterey, California, for the actual auction, which starts on August 13.
