The Best Time to Have Sex, According to Science

sex 3pm1 The Best Time to Have Sex

If your motto’s always been “When it’s right, it’s right,” why wait until the middle of a cold dark night? Especially since science has now confirmed the optimum time for mutually pleasant sex: it’s 3pm. Afternoon delight? Definitely a thing, at least for men in heterosexual relationships.

According to hormone expert Alisa Vitti, who recently spoke to the Daily Mail, the middle of the afternoon is when the hormones of men and women are most perfectly aligned for the act of love. 3pm is when women have high levels of cortisol, which makes them more energetic. For men, 3pm is when estrogen levels, which heighten mental sensitivity, are at their peak. This might also explain why 3pm is the perfect time for watching cat videos.

If you or your partner happens to have a normal job, don’t hand in your resignation letter just yet—but do have a good excuse lined up as to why you’re late to the office. The morning is apparently the second most excellent time to get it on, due to men’s increased levels of testosterone.

“In men, testosterone levels peak around 7am, while you’ll both be fully rested, with heightened senses,” sex therapist Suzie Hayman told the Daily Mail, adding that women “tend to be more tactile and responsive” immediately after waking up. So really we’re all morning people after all.
